Week 3 Day 5 Food

Breakfast:

  • VMHC was out of order, so I splurged. Peppermint Mocha from Starbuck's (One of the only ways I can drink Starbuck's coffee is if it's in a flavored something or other - it tastes burnt otherwise. It's a shame their coffee sucks so bad, because they make a decent hot chocolate.)

Lunch:

  • Leftover salmon, etc. from last night
  • Yogurt
  • Crackers
  • Mandarin orange cup
  • A few Chips Ahoy
  • Can Dr. P

Dinner:

  • homemade gnocci with beets and chard
  • milk
  • ice cream

We walked the usual route.

Breakfast:

  • Yogurt smoothie (no VMHC today)

Lunch:

  • Leftover clam chowder (the last of it)
  • Bread
  • Milk
  • pineapple
  • A few crackers
  • A few Dove dark chocolate pieces

Dinner:

  • Salmon with onions, artichoke hearts, olives, capers, asparagus (pretty darn good, if I do say so myself, since I made it up)
  • Leftover Israeli couscous (I usually make the salmon on steamed rice, but I think I like it better on the couscous)
  • A few (ok, several) Chips Ahoy (I couldn’t resist)

Clarification

I’m sure some of my vast readership (HA!) is wondering how eating clam chowder that has bacon in it and risotto made with chicken stock works into my whole plan.  At the beginning of me trying this, I decided I didn’t want to make it too hard for my wife (who does most of the cooking) to make food, and I didn’t want to make the plan so complicated that I wouldn’t stick to it.  So, my rules are flexible.  There’s only 4 oz of bacon in the whole pot of clam chowder (probably 12 servings), so I don’t worry about it.  And the meat and poultry rules are defined as actual meat, so stock doesn’t count.  I’m not trying to be vegetarian, just cut down on the amount of meat I eat.

Monday's Food

Breakfast:

  • VMHC

Lunch:

  • Leftover tuna/white bean salad
  • Yogurt with raspberries and strawberries
  • Whole wheat pita
  • Two chocolate cupcakes, no icing (I can’t eat any more, I give up)
  • Can Dr. P

Dinner:

  • Homemade clam chowder
  • Sourdough bread, olive oil, vinegar
  • Green salad, goat cheese, vinaigrette
  • A few cookies

We walked a different route today, so we could swing past RC Willey.

Week 2 Summary

I kept my goals this week: one meal of meat, one of chicken, and walked 5 days. I don't feel much different, although my back and hamstring don't hurt nearly as much (especially my hamstring).

Sunday's Food

Breakfast:

  • Hot chocolate (milk and Nestle Quik)
  • OJ
  • Whole wheat bagel with peanut butter

Lunch:

  • Leftover Pollack, curried garbanzo beans, red rice.
  • Whole wheat pita
  • Milk
  • I think I ate a cupcake, but I can’t remember for sure. I have to start writing this at night. And, note to self… 24 cupcakes is WAY too many for 2 people to eat.

Dinner:

We went to see Bee Movie (I give it 2 stars – nothing special) and then we stopped at the grocery store. I had big plans to cook my chicken allotment for the week. We were going to just pick up a few things, but it turned into a full-fledges shopping trip. Then, when I got home, I decided the fridge needed to be cleaned out to store the new food. Needless to say, by the time we were done, I didn’t feel like cooking anymore, so Wendy’s produced my week’s chicken. It was pretty disappointing. My chicken dish will come in a day or two.

  • Monterey chicken sandwich
  • Fries (not many – they were kind of past their prime)
  • Coke

We walked the usual route.
